The beginning of May means different things to different parts of the country, but in Indiana that usually means racing kicks into high gear. Racing held earlier this month marked the opening rounds of diesel truck drag racing, which promoters say will take place once a month at the Muncie Dragway in Muncie, Ind.
A recent Friday night event at the Muncie Dragway brought out more than 100 diesel trucks to the track, and 60 of them ended up racing in two classes. The next Friday night diesel drag race will be June 6, then the DIESEL Motorsports Thunder in Muncie event will be held June 20.
DIESEL Motorsports sponsors this monthly series of races in order to build the interest for diesels. It is one of roughly a dozen affiliate agreements the association has set up with groups around the country.
DIESEL Motorsports is the only diesel sanctioning body that helps either with funding, marketing, insurance or PR for several state and local diesel clubs. Yes, you read that correctly; they spend money and time supporting other groups to promote diesel racing and pulling.
The next big affiliate event for diesel pulling is with Mid Missouri Truck Tractor Pulling Association (MMTTPA) at an event Saturday, May 17 in Jefferson City at the Fairgrounds.
