It was hard to get pictures of the cars arrayed in the Super Car Gallery at the Chicago Auto Show. You had to be a very patient shutterbug and wait out all of the folks taking “selfies” and photos of their friends sitting in a RollsRoyce, a Lamborghini or a Bugatti. Not everyone can own one of the World Class machines on display, but while they are at the show, they can sit in one.
Each car exhibited was identified by a sign telling the price and the size of the engine or how fast the car should go. The Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 goes out the door for a mere $504,115, including the 6.5-liter V-12. That compares to $292,025 for the Huracan LP610-4 sold by the same automaker. This storming supercar uses a 5.2-liter V-10 for power and claims a top speed of 202 mph. Zero-to-62 mph takes 3.2 seconds.
There was also a pair of Rolls Royce in the Gallery. The sportier Wraith was $367,275 and relies on a 6.6-liter Twin Turbo V-12 for motivation, Though not made for a drag strip, the Wraith can do 0-to-60 in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. The white Rolls Ghost Series III ($329,590) also uses a 6.6-liter V-12 and tops out at 155 mph. Zero-to-60 takes 4.7 seconds though.
The black Ferrari was an FF with a $295,000 window sticker. It gets its oomph from a 6.3-liter V-12 that puts out 651 hp. That equates to a 3.7 second 0-to-60 time and a top speed of 208 mph. The much prettier red Ferrari California T had a folding top and a 3.9-liter Twin Turbo V-8 good for 550 hp. It did 0-to-60 in 3.5 seconds and 198 mph all out. The price tag was $198,973,
The lowest priced car in the Gallery was a Lotus Evora IPS 2+2 that you could buy for just $69,980. It was motivated by a 3.5-liter V-6 that made 276 hp. The 0-to-60 was 5 seconds and top speed was 159 mph. Not too far away was the most expensive—and most photographed car—the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse. Price: $2,625,000. Engine: W16 16.4-liter Quad Turnocharged. Horsepower: 1200. 0-to-60: 2.0 seconds. Top speed: 255 mph.
