The scene pictured in the video above happened in London. One driver returned to find his car, an Opel Astra, attached and mounted to a flatbed truck, awaiting for the truck driver to return and take it away. The unnamed driver got into his car, started it, and reversed it off of the back of the flatbed truck. There was a three foot drop from the bed of the truck to the ground, but the car ended up on four wheels. The driver then ostensibly proceeded to go about leaving the scene.
Police say that they have not identified the driver or the car, and, without any leads, they have no intention of pursuing the incident further. In other words, this brave citizen is off the hook.
Now, this car probably suffered a fair bit of damage, despite nothing being visible. The damage and wear put on the car from this little stunt is likely to exceed the cost of recovering a vehicle from the impound lot. Most people around the web are lampooning this guy for being irresponsible and uttering all of the usual condemnations, calling him an idiot. However, there is a small crowd, citing the seemingly increasingly extortive nature of towing companies these days, who are lauding this man as a hero. Maybe he’s a little bit of both.
