Honda’s hot new compact sports car could help heat up the market in the next few years.
There’s been plenty of buzz lately around compact sports cars coming to our shores, especially with the arrival of the Alfa Romeo 4C last week, as well as the 25th anniversary of the Mazda Miata, which accompanies a redesigned model for 2015. But Honda is showing us they’re a contender too, with rumors that their compact sports car concept, the S660, will go into production.
As Honda’s first roadster since the discontinuation of the S2000, the S660 has quite a bit of potential. There isn’t much information available on the S660 yet, but it will have a 660 cc engine, which will likely be a three liter. Unfortunately, however, like its predecessor, the Honda Beat, the S660 may never reach our shores. Production has been confirmed for 2015- for the Japanese market. It wouldn’t seem altogether unlikely for the car to come to the U.S., though. The compact sports car market is sure to experience good growth in the coming years, so maybe Honda will bring the S660 here sometime around 2016 or later. But for now we’ll have to wait and see.
