Owned by Northern California resident Jim Haughey, K-PAX Racing, the first team to field closed-wheel McLaren race cars in North America in nearly 30 years, is traveling to Sonoma Raceway this weekend to compete wheel-to-wheel in the Pirelli World Challenge series.
K-PAX will campaign its two McLaren 12C GT3s on a 12-turn, 2.52-mile track, where the team has found success in the past – finishing fourth in 2013 and taking the checkered flag in 2012. Through 12 rounds, driver Robert Thorne is ranked eighth in the drivers’ points standings. Teammate Alex Figge is 11th after being sidelined for two races due to an accident at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., in June.
Racing takes place Aug. 23 and Aug. 24.
