It could be said that 58 years of age is time to retire from every kind of racing, but not Schrader. Instead he’s continually showing up at dirt and asphalt tracks around the country – more than 90 times in 2013 alone. Wherever he races he often sets fast lap times and/ or wins with his dirt late model or dirt open wheel modified. In 2014 he’s already racked up 7 top 5’s, all the while keeping his hand in with the occasional foray into the Camping World Truck Series.
Schrader may well have ‘laid back’ reputation as a racer but don’t bet against him. On just his second ARCA stock car start in 2013 at historic Winchester (Indiana) Speedway, he was fastest in both practice sessions and won the Menards Pole Award with an ARCA qualifying record of 15.826 seconds, or 113.737 mph.
Kenny Schrader is not only an American icon he’s extremely hospitable as well. So if you find yourself in the Concord, North Carolina area, Kenny invites you to come and see his race shop – but he probably won’t be home – he just hasn’t retired yet.
Show repeat: Sunday, Nov. 30 at 11:00pm ET.
