There have been rumors for some time that Lexus has been considering a run at V8 Supercars. While we don’t have any news regarding this, it appears as though they have gone after the next best thing. The Lexus RC F will take on a new role as the safety car during the next season of the widely followed Australian touring car series.
As far as we can tell, and according to reports, there will not be any substantial mechanical modifications to the RC F used to facilitate its performance of the new role. The RC F sports a 5.0 liter V8 that produces 467 horsepower and accelerates the car to 60 miles an hour in a mere 4.4 seconds.
A Lexus IS 350 F Sport will serve as the medical car, and a Lexus GS 350 F Sport will serve as an additional support vehicle. Many are speculating that this move is paving the way for a Lexus entry to the series, in order to bolster the performance heritage and reputation of the brand. Such a move may serve Lexus well, and considering the probable exit of Volvo from V8 Supercars, the series could use some newcomers.
