The Lotus Exige S is now available with an automatic transmission, for those of you who have always wanted a Lotus but have only been availed with the option of a manual. The lightweight roadster now comes available with a six-speed automatic transmission, complete with paddle shifters.
With a power to weight ratio of 292 hp per ton, the Exige S embodies the spirit of lightweight and compact performance. The new gearbox offers lightning fast shifting, with up-shifts taking less than 240 milliseconds. The car offers an extended Sport Mode that can be selected by the driver to improve responsiveness and allow for increases in traction slip thresholds to afford the driver more control.
The Exige S makes use of the Toyota sourced 3.5 liter supercharged V6, which puts out 345 horsepower and accelerates the car to 60 mph in a mere 3.8 seconds. The automatic will be available as an option on both the Exige S and Exige S Roadster model variants. The availability of the six-speed manual remains unchanged for the Exige model range.
After leading Lotus to a massive rebound in global sales, Lotus Group CEO Jean-Marc Gales, commented on the new development,
“Expanding the Exige range, with a new automatic gearbox, opens up a new market for those who prefer using a paddle shift with the alternative of an automatic gearshift. We expect that the Exige S Automatic will account for over a third of the total global sales for the Exige S range as many drivers will appreciate the involvement of a manual paddle-shift and the convenience of an automatic.”
