Normally, you hear tales of cars or motorcycles jumping over trucks and other manner of heavy vehicles. However, the Lotus Formula 1 team decided it was time for a role reversal. This daring plot twist pits a Lotus Formula 1 racecar driven by stunt driver Martin Ivanov, against a Renault Magnum truck, featuring a Mack V8 with 550 horsepower and capable of a top speed of a whopping 81 miles per hour. Mike Ryan, the famous Freightliner drifter, pilots the Renault over the ramp.
The stunt saw the two vehicles speeding next to each other in a parallel fashion, before the Renault dove off of a ramp, and the Formula 1 car sped underneath him, darting out of the way horizontally before all 18,000 lbs. of flying steel came thundering down. As the Renault came crashing down to the ground, the damage was readily apparent, portended by the flying bits of rubber and metal debris. Though it went speeding on by, there has to be quite extensive suspension damage sustained.
The Lotus team was on a list of privateer teams who, earlier in the season, were threatening to boycott the United States Grand Prix, in protest of the sport’s income distribution model. After complaining about an ostensible lack of funding, it looks like they’re doing a little bit better, seeing as though they’re willing to ruin a $60,000 rig just for a few seconds of stunt glory and a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The only question now is whether or not Romain Grosjean will try his luck behind the wheel for this stunt, but don’t hold your breath. The entire stunt is shown in the video below. Enjoy.
