According to one SME engineer, the marine race environment imparts significantly different demands on an engine,
“For any of our marine-style applications, they’ll require some different thought from a camshaft and rotating assembly standpoint, because it’s going to be in and out of the water frequently. There are a different series of loads that are placed on an engine such as this versus a typical drag race application,”
What really sets this engine apart, however, is the fact that it can run seamlessly on pump-grade 93 octane fuel. Most engines of this output built for such applications have to run ultra-high octane race fuel or alcohol based fuels.
