With Formula E gearing up and all of the talk about electric car technology going around lately, Mitsubishi decided they weren’t getting left out.
The new racecar is based on Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV zero-emission minicar. Mitsubishi plans on racing two of these new racecars in this year Pike’s Peak Climb. The race features a 12.42 mile and 156 corner road course up the side of Pikes Peak, and it has an elevation climb of over 5,000 feet. The race will finish at a final elevation of approximately 14,500 feet, three miles above sea level.
The car, dubbed the MiEV III, is powered by four electric motors, forming the crux of its all-wheel drive system. In synchrony, the motors produce a combined output of 450 kilowatts, or 603 hp. Mitsubishi has also employed its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) traction control technology, which has been optimized for better handling. The chassis has also been lightened and redesigned to improve down-force.
