In Maranello, Italy, at the historic Pista di Fiorano during the Ferrari’s 70th anniversary celebrations, a 2017 LaFerrari Aperta, the Italian marque’s ultimate hypercar, set a record for a 21st Century car when it sold for $9.9 million at the RM Sotheby’s Leggenda E Passione sale. The price, double the high estimate, was realized after as many as 12 collectors vied for the car.
The yet-to-be-built, 210th LaFerrari Aperta, will be finished in a one-of-a-kind stunning metallic Rosso Fuoco with a Bianco Italia double racing stripe on the hood and rear deck. The interior will be trimmed in black Alcantara with red leather inserts on the seats, red stitching, and glossy black carbon fiber trim. With Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Chairman and CEO of Ferrari, on the block to help with the sale, the entire $9.9 million that the car realized will be donated to Save the Children for an international program focusing on education.
