Apologies for the poor quality of the video, but this one had to be shared. Back in the 90s, a company called Mattech Motorsports answered a call to a challenge from Sport Compact Car magazine that asked for the ultimate street performance car. What they built was a twin-engine Tiburon, which sported over 600 horsepower.
This Tiburon has two engines, with one mounted in the front and one mounted in the rear. The builders simply made use of two stock Tiburon engines- 2.0 liter I4s. Each engine was tuned to just over 300 horsepower and turbocharged. With one in the front and one in the rear, the car had a rudimentary all-wheel drive setup.
With two separate transmissions that allow for one engine to be put in drive and the other in reverse, you have to wonder if they just built it like this so they could do tight donuts, but to each their own. Of course, we can’t help but wonder, what ever became of this thing, and who owns it twenty years later?
