The Porsche 911 is one of the last great bastions of the boxer engine. This video shows the assembly line in which the 911’s prolific flat six engine is built in Zuffenhausen, Germany, showing much of the delicate handwork and sophisticated automation.
The 911 comes equipped with either a 3.4 liter flat six or a twin-turbocharged 3.8 liter flat six in the 911 Turbo models. The assembly depicted here appears to be of the non-turbocharged engines, so in all likelihood, the video depicts the 3.4 liter derivative.
Chronicling everything from the fitting of the pistons to the final inspection at the end, this insight into the Porsche manufacturing process is 6 minutes well spent.
